It’s Me, I’m Back // Blog Domain Name Change, 2018 Highlights & 2019 Goals.

HOLY SHIRTBALLS – I’M BACK!

shirtballs

I have no idea how many times I’ve opened up my laptop with the intention of writing this exact post, but I am finally back to blogging after a forever hiatus!

Let’s be real for a second: I missed you guys SO much! I missed talking about books, reading books and blogging about books. I missed this entire community and how supportive it is. There wasn’t a day that I didn’t think about blogging and about  all of you, but sadly life just gets in the way sometimes.  Before we get into my highlights of 2018 I want to address the change of my domain and blog name, for a while I’ve felt that I needed a change so I decided to change my blog and domain name. The blog also underwent some design changes along with the new name. It’s not a major change but it is one that I wanted to make for a very long time, I feel like the change is more inclusive of the content I am planning on sharing with you in 2019! Book Adventures will now be known as Books & Adventures.

2018 highlights

2018 was a difficult but still somewhat rewarding year for me. I finally started my first real job a year after I graduated, it was quite an adjustment but I learnt a lot, traveled a lot and never really slept a lot {hence my absence from this blog for so long}. My granddad also had a few health scares that led to a number of hospital visits, but he is at home now and doing much better. My mental health took a few tumbles but overall it wasn’t a bad year. Let’s take a look at some of my highlights for 2018.

Five Year Anniversary — The boyfriend and I celebrated our five year anniversary in September. I can honestly not believe we’ve come this far but I am so happy to have him in my life. He is a constant light in a sometimes dark world and I love him endlessly for that. He supports me in everything I do and I can honestly not have asked for a better human to have spent five years with.

Birthday Getaway — I got surprised with a weekend getaway to Sabie for my birthday! It was really amazing. It was a weekend filled with fun, laughter, relaxation and lots and lots of trees and waterfalls. The views and waterfalls were really breathtaking and I’d definitely go back in the future.

Employee of the Year — The employee of the year award is a people’s award in our company and the person that receives the most votes from their colleagues is the winner and the winner for 2018 was me! I’m extremely honored and grateful to win this award – I worked really hard this year and I am just so happy that it was seen by other people as well.

Riveted by Simon Teen — I discovered this amazing website some time late last year via Twitter and it has honestly changed my world. Riveted is a website created by Simon Teen where they offer free reads every single month and it is absolutely amazing! Because of this website I’ve manage to read some pretty great titles including Scythe by Neal Shusterman as well as Alex, Approximately by Jenn Bennet, both books that I absolutely loved. I’m currently reading Starfish by Akemi Dawn Bowman and it together with a number of other great reads is available until the end of the month.

2019 goals

We are officially three days into 2019 and I am actually excited to see what this year might bring. I’m not really one for resolutions, but I have decided to create a few goals that I’d like to work on and accomplish before the end of 2019 – so without further ado, here is my 2019 goals list.

♡ Read More — That’s it, that is basically the entire goal. In 2019 I simply just want to read more. With all the distractions in 2018 I never really kept track of how much I read {which was kinda freeing in a way} but I also know that I could’ve read more had I put my mind to it, so in 2019 my goal is simply to read more. No Goodreads goal, no magic number – I am simply deciding to read more books that will make me happy.

♡ Create & Photograph More Memories — I love creating memories with people who I love, it instantly boosts my mood and I love thinking back to memories that made me happy. My one big problem is that I never really capture these memories. This year I want to try to create more memories while also remembering to capture said memories. I love the idea of Instagram and being able to take a look back at photo’s, so as part of this goal I also want to share more memories on Instagram so I can look back at the end of the year with a smile on my face.

♡ Eat More Plant-Based — For quite a while now I’ve considered going vegetarian, not only for health purposes but because I really love all animals {I’m not saying people who eat meat don’t but that is just one of the reasons I’m considering going vegetarian}. If any of you are following a plant-based diet hit me up with some tips and recipes in the comments please.

♡ Blog More — I really want to try to blog more this year. Once again I’m not linking a number to this, right now I don’t know how many blog posts I’ll be able to post in a week, all I know is that I would like to blog more than I did last year. I’m going to work really hard to figure out a blogging schedule that fits into my normal schedule and then we’ll just take it from there.

I hope each and every one of you has an amazing 2019 and that you achieve all of your goals!

What was some of your 2018 highlights and what goals do you have for 2019? Let me know in the comments.

  1. It’s so wonderful to hear from you again, Michelle! ❤️ This is such a wonderful post! Congrats on your 5 year anniversary and employee of the year recognition! What amazing highlights! (Also, Scythe and Alex Approximately are such great reads! I adore both!)

I love your 2019 goals! I tend to eat quite a bit plant-based foods (I’m not vegetarian, but I have dietary restrictions), and would highly recommend using Pinterest to find vegetarian and vegan friendly recipes! 💕

I hope your 2019 is absolutely amazing!

    1. Thanks so much for your kind comment, Kelly 💜

Scythe was amazing! I’m so excited to finish Thunderhead.

I’m not totally vegetarian as yet, but I haven’t eaten red meats in a very long time, somehow I don’t have a problem with chicken. Thanks so much for your recommendations, I’ll definitely check out Pinterest.

  2. Welcome back!

Those are some great goals! I’ve actually been vegetarian for almost three years, ever since reading Jonathan Safran Foer’s Eating Animals. I didn’t do it for health reasons, either, but I’ve found that I’ve felt SO MUCH better since I stopped eating meat. It was a challenge in the beginning, but it got easier, so don’t let that get you down. I’ve found there are great veggie options in stores and restaurants now, so you just have to find what you like. My advice would be to watch your protein, because I was not getting nearly enough when I first stopped eating meat and I had no energy.

Good luck with all your goals! And feel free to reach out if you have any questions about good veggie options!

    1. Thanks so much for your lovely comment, Stephanie 💜

I’m so happy to hear that you’ve been vegetarian for SO long! I’ve obviously done some research and it hasn’t being going too bad for the past week or so. Lots of stores and restaurants have great veggie options which is a good thing. What protein substitutes do you use?

Good luck with all your goals as well. I hope you have a lovely 2019 xx

      1. I’m glad your first week has gone well! It’s always hardest in the beginning, but it gets much easier. When I cook for myself, I mainly go with eggs, tofu, or high protein pasta (they’re just easier). I’m a big fan of the Tofurky Italian sausages as well. And I like seitan, but haven’t tried cooking it at home yet.

  3. I am so, so, so happy to see you back to blogging Michelle and I can’t wait to hopefully see you blogging more regularly, too ❤ ❤ It seems like so much has happened and congratulations on employee of the year and the five year anniversary, that's amazing! ❤
It is so great about Riveted reads as well, I appreciate it so much that they have free reads, but I haven't tried them yet, as I don't like reading on my phone at all.
Best of luck for your 2019 resolutions, sending you all the love and hugs and happy reading! ❤ ❤

    1. Marie – Thanks so much for your lovely comment 💜
They really have amazing books on Riveted from time to time, I do agree that is gets uncomfortable to read on your phone for a long time but I usually read a few chapters at night in bed – you can also read on your computers which is a little less strenuous.

Sending love, hugs and happiness right back at you. I hope you have a lovely 2019 xx

I hope you will continue to enjoy your job and find a great balance with blogging. It’s always tough in the beginning 😀
