My Favourites of 2018 {featuring} Books, Movies & TV Shows.

Yay – it’s my favourite time of the year, the time where we get to look back at the past year and pick out our favourite things. I devoted most of my free time to binging movies and shows last year {luckily I also managed to squeeze in a few books}. I’m really glad I devoted that much time to watching TV, I discovered some really amazing shows and movies that I cannot wait to share with you guys

2018 best books & movies

♡ Words In Deep Blue by Cath Crowley — Omw this book was so poetically beautiful and it definitely made me emotional. It had the perfect setting: A bookshop! The letter library was my absolute favourite part of this entire book, it was so beautiful and heart-wrenching at the same time. I loved the relationships in this book, they made my heart melt and break at the same damn time. This book was a constant pull between happy and depressing and I absolutely loved it!

♡ Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindewald— I loved the first Fantastic Beasts movie so I was really looking forward to watching the second installment. I know that there were a few plot holes, but despite that I still really liked it. Newt was his charming cinnamon roll self, there were adorable baby nifflers and Dumbledore was portrayed amazingly well by Jude Law. There was some problems with the plot and other aspects, but I am intrigued to see where Rowling will take the plot in the third movie.

♡ Girl Made of Stars by Ashley Herring Blake — Girl Made of Stars was one of those books that took me completely by surprise. This is an amazing book: It packs a real punch, it is gut-wrenching, honest, heartbreaking but oh so beautiful. I honestly don’t have the right words to describe this book, I think it is an incredibly meaningful book for so many readers. Please do yourself and add this book to your TBR for this year if you haven’t read it yet {please be mindful of triggers if you decided to read this wonderful book}.

♡ Love, Simon — Guys! I did it, I finally watched the Love, Simon movie {I also read the amazing book by Becky Albertalli and it was so good!}. This movie made me all mushy on the inside and I loved it. Everything was perfect and I think it is a really great bookish adaptation. Nick Robinson did an amazing job as Simon and I really loved Keiynan Lonsdale as Blue. It feels like I have no coherent thoughts and that I’m just babbling but this movie is amazing and the book is amazing and just please read/watch it.

♡ Scythe by Neal Shusterman — I cannot believe I slept on this book for SO long! Scyhte is one of the best books I’ve read in a very long time, I’m not one to normally enjoy sci-fi but this book is amazing. I loved the concept of “modern” grim reapers and I got sucked into the story from the very first pages. I was totally invested in Citra and Rowan’s story and I loved how it all played out. I’ve already started the sequel and I can’t wait to see how it will pan out.

2018 best shows

The Good Place — For a long time I didn’t want to watch The Good Place for reason unknown, but boy am I glad I finally decided to watch it. This was once again a show that blew my forkin mind. This show is amazingly clever and funny and I binged watched both seasons in a matter of days. The casting is absolutely perfect and I fell in love with Eleanor and sweet, sweet Chidi. Bring on season three for more binging.

Santa Clarita Diet — This was one of those shows I decided to watch on a whim as I scrolled through Netflix and I do not regret it for one second. This show is amazingly weird {in a really good way} and seriously funny. It takes being a zombie to a whole other {more comical} level and I loved it. All the actors are excellent in this, but I especially loved Drew Barrymore and Liv Hewson’s portrayals. I absolutely cannot wait for season 3 to release later this year.

You — This show blew my damn mind! I was utterly impressed with how creepy yet intriguing it was at the same time. Penn Badgley plays an incredible role and he takes the unreliable narrator to a whole different dimension. I binged watch this throughout the night {would not recommend starting it at night, alone} but other than that it really is a phenomenal creeper story and I would recommend it to everyone. I really look forward to the next season!

Brooklyn Nine-Nine — Yet another show I wasn’t really planning on watching, but then it almost got cancelled and people freaked out and I decided I needed to know what all the hype was about and let me tell you: It was worth it. This show is comedy gold and I cannot believe I did not get invested in this sooner. The cast is definitely what makes this show SO good and they are all just perfect {except you Gina, you are the most perfect}. I am so psyched for season six to come out, but I first have to get caught up on season five.

The Haunting of Hill House — This show was amazing! I love dark and creepy and Haunting of Hill House had the best dark and creepy vibe and I absolutely loved it. The ghosts were amazing, I don’t get scared easily but even I got scared a few times. The character development was incredible and I really loved the Crain’s back story. I would really love a second season of this show exploring the history of the original Hill family.

Some other honourable mentions include Riverdale {I am absolute thrash for this show}, Grace & Frankie and The Final Table.

What were some of your favourites of 2018?

♡ Did you love any of the books, movies & tv shows on my list?

    1. I know exactly what you mean! He is the ultimate unreliable narrator. I think we all feel sorry for him because we mostly only hear his thoughts.

I’m really excited to see where they’ll take the story in season two 😊

  2. This is a great list; Love, Simon is definitely one of my favourites this year (one of my favourite movies and probably my favourite book to film adaptation). Also I finally got around to Scythe this year and I can’t believe I slept on it for so long either, I have more of Neal Shusterman’s books on my TBR list for 2019 and if they’re anything like Scythe and Thunderhead they’ll probably make it onto my 2019 favourites recap. 😀
I’ve heard so many amazing things about The Good Place, I need to get around to that in 2019, and yes Brooklyn Nine-Nine is forever going to be a favourite of mine. There’s not a show out there that can beat it in my opinion!
    Great post, and I hope you’re having a great 2019 so far. 🙂 ❤

      1. That’s all right, and yes so far so good. Hopefully it’s a good year so far for you too. 🙂
At least we finally got around to Scythe, better late than never right? Yeah there was so much hype for Love, Simon but the film pulled through (thankfully).
The Good Place is definitely a priority of mine, I need to know what all the fuss is about.
